Biography
Dr. Elizabeth M H Newbury is an expert on serious games and games being used for public good. For eight years, Dr. Elizabeth M. H. Newbury served as Director of the Serious Games Initiative at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, which researched, developed, and amplified voices from the field of serious games and game-based approaches. While at the Wilson Center, she was Chair of the Federal Games Guild, an informal community of practice held across federal agencies looking to use games to meet mission goals. Dr. Newbury continues her work in serious games and AI as a visiting scholar at American University, working on research with the AU Game Center and Higher Education Video Game Alliance. Newbury earned her PhD from the Department of Communication at Cornell University, and her BA from Bryn Mawr College in anthropology.
